BACKGROUND:
The WORKBOOK format is designed to parallel the structure of the Environmental Education Materials: Guidelines For Excellence, hereafter referred to as the Materials Guidelines. There are 28 guidelines organized into six major Key Characteristics. Within each Materials Guideline there are a number of indicators which can assist writers or evaluators of EE materials in determining how well materials meet the guidelines.

The WORKBOOK is divided into the same six key characteristics as the Materials Guidelines. Within each key characteristic are several learning objectives which relate to the appropriate Materials Guidelines and are intended to bring users of the WORKBOOK closer to the overarching goal of this workbook which is . . .

to bridge the gap between theory and practice by providing educators with examples and activities which clarify the Materials Guidelines.

Each of the 16 Objectives in this Workbook is accompanied by an activity or example intended to clarify the application of some part of the Materials Guidelines. The modular format of the WORKBOOK allows the user to begin at any place in the workbook rather than working from front to back. Someone who desires to experience the entire workbook from front to back may do so while someone else can jump in at any point they choose.
