1.  TEXAS ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Deadline: November 4, 2005 Presented by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the Texas Environmental Excellence Awards recognize the efforts of citizens, communities, businesses and organizations to preserve and protect the Texas environment. 2006 awards are in 10 diverse categories including educational initiatives. 2.  SHELL SCIENCE TEACHING AWARD
Deadline: November 15, 2005 For one outstanding k–12 classroom science teacher who has had a positive impact on his or her students, school, and community through exemplary science teaching. Award includes $10,000 and an all-expense paid trip to attend NSTA's National Convention. Two semi-finalists will receive all-expense-paid trips to the convention.

3.  A NONFORMAL EDUCATION RESOURCE YOU CAN USE!
Looking for a resource that can help you design and implement effective nonformal environmental education programs? Well, look no further. The National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education (NPEEE), an initiative of NAAEE, has recently published Nonformal Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence. The Nonformal Guidelines provide a tool that can be used to ensure a firm foundation for the development of new programs or to trigger improvements in existing ones. You can download the Nonformal Guidelines and other publications in the Guidelines for Excellence series free of charge from the NAAEE website (www.naaee.org/npeee). Marcie is a tree, planted in 1987 and was the inspiration for the founding of Tree Musketeers. 17.  TOX TOWN OFFERS DISASTER HEALTH & TOXIC CHEMICALS INFO
The National Library of Medicine's Tox Town web site offers a new Hurricane Katrina (and Rita) web page that lists environmental health concerns following the disaster and during the clean-up effort. Topics include mold, pest control, worker health, drinking water, trash burning and many more. Suggested for high school students, educators, and the concerned public, the four neighborhood scenes use color, graphics, sounds and animation to add interest to learning about connections between chemicals, the environment and the public's health.

18.  NATURAL RESOURCES JOURNAL
The Journal of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Education (JNRLSE) is a peer-reviewed journal written by and for educators in natural resources, the life sciences, and agriculture disciplines, and is continuously published online by the American Society of Agronomy. Nine cooperating societies are involved including the Ecological Society of America and American Institute of Biological Sciences, among others. Members of ASA and the cooperating societies subscribe for just $35 (US)/$45 (international), which includes an e-mail alerting service when new content is posted.
