Conference Strands
|
| Thinking globally has long been a tenet of EE. Acting culturally
is the celebration of differences among all of us and respecting how these
differences can help us shape a more positive future. The following strands
are offered as guiding themes for helping us in Thinking Globally While
Acting Culturally - an appropriate theme for the rich variety of ecological,
human, and cultural diversity of Alaska. Strands will feature workshops,
concurrent sessions, poster and interact sessions. Keynote speakers will
present constructs from the strands.

Professional Development for Affiliate Organization Leaders
Designed for NAAEE Affiliate organization leaders by NAAEE
Affiliate organization leaders, this workshop provides a rare face-to-face
opportunity for creating and improving communications, planning, and information
sharing among the affiliates. We'll work on enhancing skills and strategies
crucial to meeting the challenges facing the affiliates: group insurance/benefits,
funding, quality assurance, interfacing with national agencies, advancing
your organization and EE, and membership development. The Affiliates Network
annual business meeting will follow, from 3 - 5 p.m., on Wednesday, in
the same meeting space. This workshop is supported by EETAP.

NAAEE,
ANROE and the 2003 Conference |
Anchorage, Alaska, the site of the 2003 NAAEE conference,
with the majestic Chugach Mountains as its backdrop, is a city full of northern
charm and natural beauty. With its location near the top of the world and
a population of about 250,000, Anchorage is unique in that it can combine
the modern amenities and accommodations of a large city with the ambiance
of the last frontier. Anchorage is located in one of the most breathtaking
and spectacular regions of North America. The NAAEE conference will not
only offer opportunities to experience the incredible outdoors in and about
Anchorage, but it will also offer opportunities to experience and learn
about the cultural diversity of the area and the state. For more information
visit Anchorage's website at http://www.anchorage.net.
ANROE Welcomes You to Alaska!
The Alaska Natural Resource and Outdoor Education association (ANROE)
welcomes you to Alaska, the Last Frontier! Alaska is an enchanted land
rich with diversity: historical, cultural, natural resource, and biological.
ANROE is a statewide group of formal and non-formal educators who are
dedicated to reaching out to Alaskan communities to learn about and appreciate
Alaska's environment and natural resources and to understand how we interact
with them.
Alaska is "different," and it presents special challenges to
educators. They must find ways to adapt to vast distances (Alaska is 2.5
times larger than TEXAS!), high cost of living, cultural diversity, and
other factors unique to this magnificent state. Our vision is a world
where Alaskans of all ages will become environmentally literate, lifelong
learners, and who embrace cultural diversity and ecological principles
needed to sustain Earth and all life forces. We encourage you to contact
our board members and our Executive Director if you have questions or
ideas. Please visit our website: www.anroe.org.
Welcome to Alaska, we hope that you will enjoy our incredible state as
much as we do.
