Surrounded by mesas and canyons, you'll also learn about Bandelier's ground-breaking research into fire ecology. The scenic mountain drive will take you through red, white and pink canyons, groves of fall aspen and expansive vistas. Visit LANL and see demonstrations of environmental monitoring such as well drilling, air and water quality monitoring, and cultural resource protection. School-Based Environmental Education 8:30 am-4:30 pm Cost: $40 ![]() Observe outdoor classrooms in action! Visit a series of Albuquerque area schools and learn first-hand how teachers use their campuses and adjacent forests, fields, and waterways to enhance learning. Sustaining a River 8:00 am-5:00 pm Cost: $65 ![]() As a desert river, the Rio Grande is a blessed and contentious treasure. Its modern story is one of cultural, community, and ecosystem survival. It is complicated by politics, tradition, population and a changing ecosystem. This tour goes streamside to see first hand how native Pueblo people, traditional Hispanic farmers, city dwellers, and activists are working to sustain a valued river. ![]() Explore a water oasis and its surrounding desert and grasslands at New Mexico's world-class birding sites. Sandhill cranes, snow geese and fall migrants should be arriving. You will also see how the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service manages these two refuges in distinctly different ways to provide habitat for wildlife and educate visitors. 'burque Birding in the Bosque 7:45 am-10:30 am Cost: $30 Enjoy birding in the Rio Grande bosque, the riverside forest that grows along the legendary Rio Grande. Let your spirits soar on the wings of the migrating sandhill cranes and bald eagles. You may encounter these birds, among others, at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, a surprising wildlife oasis in the heart of a city. Sandia Peak Tramway 8:30 am-12:00 pm Cost: $55 Ride the world's longest aerial tram to the top of Sandia Peak located at 10, 378 feet.
