I believe an effective way to engage learners on topics that are emotionally charged, complex, and/or controversial is through reading works of fiction. I would like to help educators incorporate nonfiction from a new and expanding genre of "CliFi" (Climate Fiction) into their curriculum via the reading of novels. In this way, developing language/ literacy knowledge and skills is linked to learning about climate change. Well crafted novels, I believe, would be particularly helpful in developing an understanding of social aspects of climate change impacts, adaptation, and mitigation.
