Understanding E-STEM

Hello, I am a first year PhD student trying to pinpoint my research interest. I currently work with research projects that focus on STEM but because of my background with EE would love to bring in some of those environmental principles. Since I'm still fairly early in my program I am trying to "Get Smart" about exactly what E-STEM is and coming to an understanding of it. Does anyone have suggestions of articles that focus on this or that would be a great starting point. All help is welcome! Thank you

Hi Ti'Era, Thanks for bringing up the concept of understanding E-STEM. In an attempt to add some definition, we (the moderators of the group) created a simple description.

E→STEM refers to learning about the environment as a pathway to STEM learning. Specifically, this includes initiatives engaging individuals in the environment as a means to explore concepts in traditional STEM disciplines.

Here’s a great, brief article that provides an example of E-STEM in action from the National Science Teachers Association (http://static.nsta.org/pdfs/NSTAReports2014Feb.pdf). I hope this is a helpful starting point, but please feel free to share other resources here that you may have come across since posting this.
