Outdoor Natural History?

Hi there!
I offer a five day place-based EE program for our local students. We are on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, on a tributary called Trail Creek. At Trail Creek Week, we offer 5 stations: Water Quality, Fisheries, History, Microplastics and a canoeing station on the Creek. I'm writing a grant to build up a trunk of supplies for the event. I would really like to beef up our history station. We have volunteers from a local museum offer the station and its a little...dry. I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken an EE approach to history? Our focus is how Lake Michigan and Trail Creek drove our economy and development from the Native Americans (Pottawatomie) that lived here, through the industrialists and agriculture.
Any suggestions for fun, hands-on activities that would engage our kids in this topic? Thanks!

Hi Nicole

Thanks for sharing, your program looks like great fun and learning. Here's a link to a freshwater teaching and learning resource that I developed while working as Global Director of Swarovski Waterschool. It is full of hands-on water-related activities. I've still got a few dozen books, so if you'd like a hard copy to use in outdoor settings, please email your address to me at donnagoodman111@gmail.com and I would be happy to mail it.
