Website:Farms for City Kids
Farms for City Kids is a non-profit residential educational program, based in Reading, VT, which mostly serves public schools from the inner cities of NYC and Boston. Our farm program is made for students in grades 4th – 7th to come and spend a week experiencing a working dairy farm. In 2015 we added our City Kids Adventure Learning (CKAL) program (also located in Reading, VT), which caters to students in grades 6th – 12th who, for the most part, have gone through the farm program in the past. Our CKAL program is also residential; students spend one week camping in the woods learning independence and empowerment through survival skills. The students learn to eat wild edibles, how to use a bow drill, create shelters to sleep in, build cordage rope from plants, camouflage from the farm kids, and much more.
We are looking for staff for our CKAL program, which runs mid June through August. Staff will work along side our CKAL educators helping facilitate the different survival skills the students are learning during the day. In the evenings staff may be responsible for evening activities (campfire, star gazing, night walk, cordage, crafts, etc.) and some overnights.
