Roles and Responsibilities: The role of the director is to manage and facilitate the promotion, scheduling and operation Aprovecho’s Appropriate Technology (AT) Program. The director’s primary role is to facilitate the successful scheduling and implementation of the appropriate technology program. This includes but is not limited to:
Development and implementation of annual marketing plan in collaboration with office staff
Program webpage updates and marketing improvements in collaboration with office staff
Answering public AT program inquiries (with assistance from Former AT directors)
Student intake and communication in collaboration with Household Steward.
Facilitation of student arrival and departure in collaboration with household steward and office staff
Scheduling teachers for educational programs in collaboration with office staff
Curriculum development for educational programs (with assistance from Former AT directors)
Documentation and publication of educational programs and projects.
Management of Assistant Program Director and AT-specific internship/work-trade positions
Development of new programs (AT or other) in collaboration with board and staff
Evaluation: The director will be evaluated based on their ability to meet attendance benchmarks for Aprovecho’s AT educational program. Minimum program attendance is 6 students in order to hold the course. The director will also be evaluated based on student evaluation forms and an annual review.
Compensation: This is a seasonal contractual position beginning winter 2017. While many of the duties (and hours) can be self-directed, there is a concentrated period of time (i.e increased hours/week) during the 6-week course. Pay rate ranges from $15/hour to $20/hour depending on course enrollment.
Payrate is incentivized according to the number of students enrolled in the course. There are many opportunities for expansion and further development with Aprovecho.
Commitment to open, honest, communication and dealing with problems directly and in a timely manner
Exemplary organizational skills
Basic understanding of pedagogy and learning, capable of delivering AT themed instruction and making content delivered by guest teachers accessible to AT students
Capacity to collaborate and co-teach
Experience teaching in formal or informal environments
Basic understanding of AT related concepts (engineering, physics, chemistry, environmental sciences, mathematics, construction)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Thorough understanding of pedagogy and learning, capable of delivering AT-themed instruction
3+ years of teaching in formal or informal environments
Teaching license preferred
Thorough understanding of AT related concepts (engineering, physics, chemistry, environmental sciences, mathematics, construction)
