Job Description:

Recruitment range: $18.00/hour, full time (30-40 hours per week), with flexible work schedule as independent contractor with a 3-month performance and compensation review period

Anticipated Start Date: March 2019

Job Duties:

  • Maintain existing, and expand, relationships with current educational partners/alliances to schedule education and stewardship programs, supply materials and promote use of educational programs in the field
  • Extend the reach of NAMEPA’s educational materials to educational institutions and industry partners throughout North America (Canada, United States, Mexico and the Caribbean)
  • Develop educational materials related to marine science and the marine industry with up-to-date data
  • Engage effectiveness of NAMEPA education programs
  • Ensure records of materials distribution and field work are recorded and maintained
  • Develop new educational materials/programs such as the Adopt a Ship Program
  • Manage ongoing student opportunities such as annual student art contest and marine science research paper competition
  • Work with NAMEPA Chapters to establish procedures and parameters to achieve goals
  • Fundraise to support education initiatives through grants, donation requests, foundations, etc.
  • Oversee social media posts about educational presentations and content related to NAMEPA mission
  • Coordinate e-blasts of monthly newsletters and updates to the NAMEPA education program
  • Supervise interns relative to education assignments and schedules for presentations
  • Perform outreach during tabling events to promote ocean literacy and increase organizational visibility
  • Represent NAMEPA within various stakeholder and networking groups

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Maritime Affairs, Natural Resources, Education, or related field

Preferred Skills and Interests:

  • 1-5 years’ experience in formal or informal marine science education and/or maritime industry education
  • Experience developing curriculum related to marine sciences or the marine industry
  • Experience conducting outreach through email blasts, events, programs, etc.
  • Self-starter with the ability to develop education programs with a high level of excellence
  • Experience coordinating with partners and stakeholder groups to achieve a common goal
  • Well versed in social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest
  • Strong passion for protecting ocean resources and inspiring an appreciation for the marine environment and the marine industry
  • Organized, timely, and a positive attitude
  • Familiar with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs
