Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES

K-12 Education Programs (50%)

  • Coordinate schedules for school-based programs
  • Co-teach Waste Matters, Bye Bye Basura, and Riparian Lab - education programs for elementary school students through classroom lessons and field trips, focusing on watershed science, marine debris, and more
  • Co-teach high school service-learning programs including Wild Oysters and Rains to Roots, by facilitating hands-on citizen science and restoration
  • Develop curriculum
  • Assist with planning and leading training workshops for teachers and informal educators
  • Evaluate education programs and educator workshops

Outreach (25%)

  • Conduct publicity and outreach of education programs to local schools
  • Event planning for community volunteer days by organizing site locations, creating promotional materials, budgeting necessary costs, and communicating with partners and participants
  • Table at events that support The Watershed Project’s mission (may include weekends)
  • Assist with grant reporting, writing for monthly newsletter, social media posting, and other communications tasks

Community Volunteer Events (25%)

  • Assist with coordinating community events and organization-wide events (Earth day, Coastal Cleanup, MLK, creek trash clean-ups, etc) throughout the year
  • Assist with the Greening Urban Watersheds volunteer events including urban tree planting and workdays on the Richmond Greenway planting and maintaining rain gardens and bioswales
  • Recruit volunteers

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Environmental Education, Environmental Studies or Science, Education, Biology, Ecology, or related field.
  • Experience teaching K-12 students both in the classroom and in the field
  • Experience in environmental education
  • Ability to be flexible and manage several projects at once
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
