Job Description:


  • Teaching license, Bachelor of Science, or related degree, plus minimum 2 years teaching experience with youth
  • Lesson plan and program development experience using field research as an educational tool
  • Sales and marketing experience with a focus on growing programs and developing relationships with teachers and administrators
  • Current CPR and first aid certification required, preference given to applicants with higher certification (WFR, W-EMT)
  • Experience managing educators or volunteers
  • Ability to stay organized and communicate well while working within multiple programs
  • Knowledge of the ecology, geography, and land management issues of Pikes Peak region is preferred
  • Willingness and preparedness to work in a variety of natural environmental conditions (sun, rain, snow, mountains, plains, forests, etc.) in addition to desk work in a shared office space
  • Ability to work evening, weekends, and flex-time hours to accommodate programs and represent CI at public events
  • Capable of operating vehicles safely, have a valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record; must have a willingness to drive a 15-passenger van
  • Business application competency for Google (Gmail & Drive), DropBox, Windows, and Microsoft Office
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated, able to become involved in all aspects of our mission to develop ecological stewards through education and adventure
  • Background check required

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support Education Director and other Catamount Institute staff as needed and directed
  • Program Coordination
  • Primarily coordinate CI’s field trip programs
  • Shared coordination of summer and spring break camp programs
  • Create and develop lesson plans as needed
  • Develop relationships with K-12 school teachers and administrators to increase field trip numbers and sales
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, and management of education program staff, fellows, volunteers and work study interns as applicable
  • Assist in acquisition and inventory of program resources (equipment, supplies, specimens, books)


  • Primarily teach in field trip programs, spring break, and summer camps you coordinate
  • Teach a YES Club at a local elementary school one afternoon a week and report to the YES Program Coordinator
  • Teach prepared lessons within the E3 program in Woodland Park one to two days a week and report to E3 Program Coordinator


  • Regularly meet with the Education Director and Executive Director to review and report on education programs you coordinate
  • Submit annual program budgets for programs you coordinate
  • Share responsibility for development and implementation of annual plans for marketing, and public relations plans for programs
  • Represent CI and present at community programs, events, and conferences as needed
  • Share management of Catamount Institute’s two 14-passenger vans including training for drivers, scheduling, and vehicle maintenance and repair schedules
  • Attend professional trainings as directed to maintain or attain relevant knowledge and certifications needed to support the educational programs, including trainings lead by other Program Coordinators for programs like YES and E3

Salary Compensation:

  • Full-time, exempt position; Salary $26,000-$28,000/year commensurate with experience
