The Education Specialists are responsible for the organization, maintenance and storage of education materials. The position also assists in the planning and conducting of summer field study programs for middle and high school students. The Education Specialists assist in the development of new programs/resources and updates existing programs/resources. Secondary duties include assisting with departmental activities such as Outreach education programs, cultural events, fairs/festivals, youth programs, volunteer training, special evening events, and Guest Engagement Programs.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or related field. Marine science background preferred. Two (2) years’ experience working with children, preferably in a non-formal education setting. Current Maryland driver’s license and a clean driving record. First Aid/CPR, wilderness first aid, canoe and kayak instruction and/or lifeguard certifications are desirable. Ability to safely operate an 8-15 passenger van. Working knowledge of audiovisual equipment. Computer literate – Office 2000, Excel, PowerPoint and other appropriate programs. Schedule flexibility to allow for weekend and holiday work is a must.
