Do you love working with kids of all ages, in all settings, teaching nature, environmental education and science? Join us at the FL Schlagle Library nestled in beautiful Wyandotte County Lake Park in Kansas City, Kansas for this exiting, fulfilling job!

Provide high quality hands-on environmental education and science programs for students and patrons of the library located in Wyandotte County Lake Park. Will teach a wide variety of science and nature programs to school children both on-site and through outreach and teach a variety of hands-on programs for families and individuals as scheduled. Works in collaboration with other staff to serve library patrons at the front desk including circulation of reading materials and other resources. Will also develop and lead summer camp activities and assist in planning large annual events such as Eagle Days, Butterfly Festival and more. Will assist in caretaking of library’s educational animals as well. Will also assist with maintenance of gardens, landscaping and nature trail as necessary.

Bachelor's degree in environmental education, or biological sciences education or an equivalent education/experience mix. Minimum of three years cumulative experience working in an environmental education/nature center or classroom with an emphasis in natural history and science teaching and programming. A demonstrated ability to develop and implement a wide range of creative, hands-on educational natural history and science-based programs for school age children as well as the public is a requirement. Proven ability to produce written program development is also a requirement. Must have the ability to interact with the public and staff in a courteous professional manner at all times and be able to work in any type of weather condition

The capability to sit, stoop, kneel, walk, reach and stand for periods at a time at a public service desk or in tasks assigned, which may require reaching higher or lower shelving units or assisting in other activities requiring similar strengths or postures are common, with or without reasonable accommodation. Some tasks may require the use of a step stool or ladder, reaching above head, kneeling or sitting on the floor and lifting up to 35 pounds as programming, set-up and maintenance requires. Work schedule will include some evenings and weekends as required. The ability to work in an environment that may contain dust and mildew, varying lighting and noise levels in a public library setting essential.
