Are you an enthusiastic, dynamic educator with a passion for engaging a wide-range of young students? If so, you might be the perfect fit for Metro's Resource Conservation and Recycling school programs team. We're looking for a new team member who will help more elementary students in the Portland region think critically about how choices impact our lives, resources and the future.
As a School Outreach Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering school-based environmental sustainability presentations to classes of K - 5th grade students, with an emphasis on natural resource conservation through conscious consumption, waste prevention, recycling, composting and pesticide use reduction. This position also assists in scheduling classroom presentations, researching and developing new educational programs, implementing program evaluation and entering program data.
You will work as part of a dynamic team of four School Outreach Specialists and two lead educators to deliver classroom presentations that: 1) are culturally-appropriate and reach diverse audiences, 2) are relevant and developmentally-appropriate, 3) are fact-based and credible and 4) promote resource conservation and build students' capacity to engage in environmentally responsible behaviors. The work of this position is directed by a lead educator and supervision is received from a manager in the Resource Conservation and Recycling division of Metro's Property and Environmental Services department.
Your primary work site will be Metro Regional Center. However, you'll spend substantial time at Metro-area schools in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties. On occasion, you'll spend some time at the Oregon Zoo as well.

Associate's degree in education, natural science, or a related field and two years experience working with elementary (K - 5th grade) youth in an education setting; or any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Requires possession of a valid driver's license.
Bachelor's degree in education, natural science, or a related field; bilingual English and Spanish, Russian, Chinese (Mandarin) or Vietnamese; knowledge of program evaluation principles and techniques.
