Job Description:

Located in the heart of Alabama, Camp McDowell is home to the McDowell Environmental Center — a wonderful place to live and work! At MEC, Environmental Education Instructors will enjoy classrooms without walls spread out over 1,140+ acres in which you will teach groups of up to 12 students from a variety of age levels and backgrounds on topics that include forest, insects and wildlife ecology, earth and water science, nature journaling, Native American history, map and compass skills, low and high ropes facilitation, full day hikes and canoeing.

Each week you'll also have the opportunity to lead evening programs that may include night hikes, astronomy, and campfire programs. Adapting lesson plans to match your teaching style and program development is also encouraged. Compensation includes a stipend starting at $275/week, meals, private rooms with shared kitchen, laundry and living space (including screened-in porch with rocking chairs!), WiFi access, and an intensive two-week staff training.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, a fondness for getting your hands dirty, and have maturity, initiative, a sense of humor, flexibility and team spirit. Positions are available during the spring (early February to mid-May) and fall (late August to mid-December).
