CDFW is currently offering the Exam for Fish and Wildlife Interpreter I. Successful completion of this exam/interview is required of all persons wishing to apply for future openings in this classifcation.
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university or an equivalent degree approved by the California Superintendent of Public Instruction under the provisions of California Education Code Section 94310(b), with major work in wildlife management, zoology, fisheries management, botany or other related biological science, including at least 15 semester units, or its equivalent, of course work in natural resource interpretation, natural resource communications, or similar subjects.
Interpreters may develop materials and programs, lead tours and school programs, provide community, outreach maintain exhibits and landscaping, etc. Examples of current CDFW interpreter assignments include the Fishing in the City Program, Classroom Aquarium Education Program, salmon, steelhead, and trout hatcheries, Back Bay Science Center, Elkhorn Slough, Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, and more.
