Duties of this position include the following but not exclusively, development and maintenance of all exhibits and animals within these exhibits, securing and maintaining all equipment and supplies required for these exhibits, procurement of food, supplies and medicine for the animals, and the supervision of all interns and volunteers.
Maintains aquariums and live animal displays including but not exclusively, developing and executing routine aquarium cleaning schedules, equipment replacement, animal feeding schedules, husbandry, animal health services, water quality, chemical stability, and comprehensive aquarium maintenance.
Identifies and resolves facility maintenance issues including but not exclusively, aquariums, tank and surface lighting, carpentry, furniture, fixtures, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and general upkeep of the facility.
Responsible for purchasing and taking delivery of items need to maintain the AREC in its entirety.
May be called upon to assist colleagues with field sampling, live animal collection, educational program delivery, occasional weekend work, and walk-in guest services.
BS in Biology, zoology, natural resource management or closely related field or equivalent experience
Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)
At least one year of experience working with public aquariums, nature centers, or zoos.
5-7 years full time work experience in natural resource management or closely related field, with at least one year in environmental education, conservation, or aquatic resources education.Licensures, Certifications and other requirements
A valid driver's license is required. Must obtain a DC government driver's permit within 90 days of employment.
This position is SAFETY SENSITIVE position. This will require additional criminal, drug test, and background check.
