Job Description:

Sierra Nevada Journeys (SNJ) is seeking a Residential Programs Director with experience overseeing, organizing and directly managing outdoor school programs and summer camps. This includes working effectively as a team with other areas of campus operations such as food service, housekeeping, grounds & facility maintenance, and campus administration to achieve the highest level of hospitality and customer service. The Residential Programs Director must be a highly organized professional who can effectively plan and manage deliverables for program delivery throughout the year. The Residential Programs Director selects, trains, manages and directs two Program Coordinators, a Challenge Course Manager and teams of 14 science instructors and 20 camp instructors and counselors. This key team-member will also lead developing innovative curricula and programs for schools and be the SNJ Summer Camp Director. Successful applicants have proven experience in managing, residential programs, curriculum writing all while creating a positive work culture.

The Residential Programs Director reports to the Campus Executive Director and works closely with the Sierra Nevada Journeys Director of Education.

Sierra Nevada Journeys has operated the Grizzly Creek Ranch campus for six years, and strives to now fill the campus to capacity over the next 2-3 years. The Residential Programs Director (RPD) will be responsible for overseeing the preparation, coordination, and communication for all campus-based programs, including Outdoor School (spring/fall), Summer Camps, special needs and youth leadership and character development programs. The Residential Programs Director will be responsible for creating and maintaining a supportive and collaborative work environment among Residential Programs Coordinators, the Challenge Course Manager, instructors, counsellors and SNJ support staff. The RPD is directly responsible for training, managing, and evaluating the Residential Programs Coordinators and Challenge Course Manager throughout the year. Qualified candidates will have competence in all areas of program management and delivery. 
Our Mission is to deliver innovative outdoor, science-based education programs for youth to develop critical thinking skills and to inspire natural resource stewardship.

The Residential Programs Coordinator is based out of Sierra Nevada Journeys’ campus at Grizzly Creek Ranch Campus in Portola, CA. Programs currently run March to November. SNJ is exploring expanding our season through the Winter in the future, and the RPD will be a critical team member in developing a successful rollout of winter program offerings.
