Organization: The Glacier Institute


Organization Description: The Glacier Institute, a private non-profit organization, serves adults and children as an educational leader in the Crown of the Continent ecosystem with Glacier National Park and the Flathead National Forest at its center. Emphasizing field-based learning experiences, the Institute provides an objective and science based understanding of the area’s ecology and its interaction with people. Through this non-advocacy approach to outdoor education, participants can be better prepared to make informed and constructive decisions, which impact this and other ecosystems.


Big Creek Teacher/Naturalists:


Teacher/Naturalists work with school groups and youth camps to empower students of all ages through place and science- based education and meaningful outdoor experiences. Teacher/Naturalists are responsible for teaching varied science curriculum, leading students on hikes and backpacking trips, monitoring students during mealtimes and bunk-times and providing safe and supportive environments to facilitate learning. Teacher/Naturalists will also rotate cooking, cleaning and bunk shifts when necessary.

Field Camp Teacher/Naturalists:

Teacher/Naturalist responsibilities vary from leading groups of varying ages and abilities on educational hikes in and around Glacier National Park to preparing dinner and cabins for guests. Teacher/Naturalists are given training in basic naturalist skills as well as teaching techniques They have the opportunity to learn from expert Naturalists during our catalogue courses, teach programs on the ecology of the Crown of the Continent ecosystem to children and adults during our custom programs and lead private groups on educational expeditions to all corners of Glacier National Park.

Dates of Employment:

Field Camp: June - late September (Position dates may be flexible).

Big Creek: April - mid October (June-August positions may also be available).


Salary: $800/month stipend and free room and partial board
