About Weir River Farm Camp:
Weir River Farm Camp is a children’s day camp located at Weir River Farm in Hingham, MA. This picturesque 75-acre working farm is one of the last farms in Hingham. The signature Belted Galloways, barnyard animals, beautiful trails, engaging education programs, and surrounding diverse wildlife habitat are what make this farm such a special place to the community of Hingham. At camp, we have an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning, in the fields and forests, the Learning Garden, and the barnyard. Our unique camp will connect children to the land, and the natural systems that support us all, while spending time outdoors, exploring, making friends, and having fun.

The Lead Farm Camp Educator position at Weir River Farm is a seasonal role – $13-$15, commensurate with experience. The typical schedule for the full time Lead Farm Camp Educator is a 35-40 hour work week, Monday through Friday for the season. The camp season runs from June 26 – August 18 with 3 days of mandatory training week which will take place June 15 – June 17. The Lead Farm Camp Educator is primarily responsible for the planning and daily execution of camp programs and activities, the guidance and supervision of assistant counselors, and direct supervision of campers, 5-13 years old.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Daily supervision and safe-keeping of campers
- Provide leadership in: ensuring the safety of campers as their main supervisor; being a liaison for parents; and guiding and supervising assistant counselors in daily camp activities
- Designing and implement camp curriculum and activities based on food, farming, and resource management with support from the staff and farm resources
- Lead in planning daily age-appropriate activities and farm projects with the help of the rest of the teaching team
- Lead daily plant and animal farm chores with designated age group (5-6, 7-9, 10-13)
- Communicate with camper parents regarding camp questions and basic camper information
- Perform daily camp staff chores to organize and prepare for each day
- Meet periodically with Camp Director to evaluate experience and performance
- Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation
- Bachelor's degree in environmental or agricultural education, the sciences, education, or other relevant course of study is preferred, but not required
- Experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, or informal educator with children ages 5-13
- Must be outgoing, have a willingness to learn
- Must have experience with and enjoy working with children in an outdoor setting
- Knowledge of or interest in farm-based education, food, and sustainability
- A desire to share your passion for the natural world with children
- A familiarity with Weir River Farm and The Trustees of Reservations helpful
- Reliable transportation
- Must be available for camp staff training week and all 8 weeks of camp
- A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI)
- Community CPR and Basic First Aid certifications required by June 1st, 2017
- Able and willing to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
- Farm Camp Educators must be at least 18 years old
