Job Description:

Duties:

  • Teach prepared nature education programs to school classes that visit the center daily, with the twofold goal of relating the curriculum and fostering a connection with, and curiosity about, nature that will last beyond the field trip
  • Develop and lead summer camps, preschool programs, outreach education programs, homeschool programs, afterschool programs and other programs
  • Coordinate community education programs for participants of all ages. This includes creating programs, assigning education staff dates/programs and bringing in outside speakers and presenters, preparing for the programs, and hosting the programs
  • Maintain and update classroom exhibits, and create new exhibits
  • Assist with the training, mentoring and evaluations of 2 AmeriCorps members each year
  • Work with teachers, parents and community members daily in registering for programs and classes
  • Assist with special events
  • Other duties related to Ogden Nature Center operations

Requirements:

  • BA or BS in science related field, education or environmental education
  • Knowledge of the principles of natural interpretation.Knowledge of local flora and fauna or the ability to quickly learn local flora and fauna
  • Love working and being outdoors
  • Love working with people of all ages, especially children
  • Articulate and an excellent writer
  • Computer proficient (Word, Excel, email)
  • US citizenship or lawful permanent residency
  • Must have a valid Utah driver’s license or the ability to obtain a Utah driver’s license within 6 months of employment.
  • A minimum of 1 year teaching experience

Physical Demands:

  • Work outdoors in all weather
  • Be able to hike moderate distances on uneven surfaces, and be on your feet all day
  • Willing to get dirty

Hours and Benefits:

40 hours per work week. May include occasional Saturday and evening work

$28,000 - $32,000 annually.Pay commensurate with experience
