Counselor at GRP, you will live and work outside for the summer on a 3,400-acre private wildlife preserve in the Blue Ridge Mountains, sharing the magic of the natural world with children ages 7-15. Serve as a mentor, guide and friend for up to 8 boys or girls by living with them in a cabin, playing games, and assisting professional naturalists as they lead daily hikes on the Preserve.
At GRP, Counselors also dive into an immersive teaching experience, ideal for aspiring educators, by learning and leading classic camp activities each afternoon. The culmination of this experience is a two-night beginner backpacking trip on our land, planned and led by Counselors in small teams. Along the way, you will develop professional skills like community-building, effective communication, and problem-solving that will serve you well in any career.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have completed one or more years of college or equivalent life experience, and have a sincere desire to work with children. We prefer to hire applicants who can commit to our full season, June 1 to August 11, 2017.
