ECS’s vision is that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to graduate from college, inspired to discover their own sense of purpose, and empowered to become quality stewards of their communities. ECS’s mission is to create and deliver vibrant, innovative, interdisciplinary learning opportunities using the environment to engage students and connect them to the wider world.

2. Interdisciplinary Curriculum & Authentic Assessment
To prepare students for four-year colleges and 21st century careers, ECS teachers provide rigorous, high quality, standards-aligned curriculum and assessments. ECS teachers use data to inform instruction and customize instruction to help students meet our high expectations. Interdisciplinary units incorporating English, History, Math, and Science occur throughout the year and teaching teams are provided with release days to plan, refine, and reflect on these projects.
3. Relevant, Engaging Instruction
Our teachers inspire students to ask questions through themed lessons that show students the concepts they are learning in real-world settings, immerse students in learning, and also often make their world a better place. Teachers deliver lessons involving a variety of strategies, incorporating current events, the arts, and technology.

Our teachers are encouraged to teach "outside the classroom walls," including outdoor and experiential education methods such as overnight camping trips and service learning. While not every lesson is focused on the environment, the relationships between natural and human systems, and the roles our students play in each are explored throughout all content areas and curriculum.
