Job Description:

NAAEE is looking for a Talented, Experienced Environmental Education Specialist in Washington, DC.

(We will consider someone in a nearby location who can telecommute, and come into the office periodically.)

This position reports to the GEEP Fellow and to the NAAEE Executive Director.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Provide research and writing support to the GEEP (Global Environmental Education Partnership: a network of countries interested in building worldwide capacity for environmental education and sharing environmental education best practices to achieve greater reach and impact):
    • Collect best practices happening in environmental education (EE) in countries around the world, with a focus on developing case studies that highlight promising research, replicable EE programs, and proven results. (The case studies and other information will be shared with EE leaders through the web platform, thegeep.org.) Specific duties include:
      • Ensure that all case studies and other copy for the website is well-written, vetted, engaging, and accessible to a variety of EE practitioners from different countries and cultures
      • Liaise with key partners, including GEEP steering committee members and partners to seek feedback, input, and direction
      • Assist in seeking publicity for the GEEP through a diversity of media outlets
      • Help prepare presentations using a variety of formats including webinars, online chats, PowerPoints, etc.
  2. Provide logistical support to the GEEP to ensure that all project deliverables are met
    • Help ensure all aspects of meetings and events are successfully executed and well-organized
    • Assist with travel logistics, including airline and hotel reservations, and helping with visa processing where needed and reimbursement
    • Monitor grant deliverables and provide support to ensure that all funder reporting requirements are met
  3. Complete a final report and renewal proposal to our funder
    • Ensure that all financial information is appropriately tracked and all deliverables are met; ensure that the final report is a comprehensive  and complete
    • Work with partners to pull together a strong, competitive proposal for renewed  funding, including budget

Working Relationships:

  1. Internal: daily contact with NAAEE staff, members, and supporters. Helps set up conference calls and meetings with GEEP leadership and advisory team members as needed. Communicates with others to compile and disseminate information as requested.
  2. External: Daily contact with external partners and colleagues related to all aspects of the position.

Minimum Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (environmental education, international relations, communications, environmental studies, etc.) with a Master’s preferred.
  2. Experience: At least five years of writing and/or research experience, with experience working internationally preferred.

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Exemplary writing and communication skills with a proven ability to transform complicated information (sometimes not easily translated into English) into easily digestible, engaging content
  2. Ability to work with a diversity of cultures and backgrounds, demonstrating a commitment to cultural competency, inclusion, and respect in all interactions
  3. Ability to problem solve and take initiative to help move projects forward
  4. Exemplary organizational skills and ability to manage logistics (e.g. meetings and events) and budgets
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a team-oriented culture
  6. Ability to work on multiple projects at once
  7. Experience with communications and media relations
