The Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach, California is seeking a part-time Naturalist/ Camp Teacher.
The ENC is a non-profit 501(c)-3 public benefit corporation. Our mission is to provide quality education through hands-on experience with nature. The ENC is recognized as a leader in science and social science education, providing opportunities for increasing our community’s knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the natural world. The 5-acres consist of a fascinating combination of 15 California native plant communities, wildlife habitat, walking trails, and sustainably designed, LEED Platinum certified learning center.
Position qualifications: (1) Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university, preferably with major course work in science, education, or a related field (2) Three or more years of experience working with children in an environmental education setting and a strong background in thematic, hands-on programs (3) Current CPR and First Aid Certificates within two months of employment (4) Demonstrate understanding, patient, receptive attitude towards students of varied age groups (5) Knowledge of California plant life, animal life, Native Americans and local indigenous people is highly desirable (6) Ability to work independently, demonstrate flexibility, work outside, handle a variety of animals, etc.
Position responsibilities: (1) Teach on site science and social science school programs based on California State Standards (2) Teach Boy Scout, Girl Scout, birthday, overnight, and other community programs (3) Teach Nature Camps (4) Develop environmental education instructional materials/ curricula (5) Communicate effectively, commit to mission and values of Environmental Nature Center, additional duties as assigned, etc.
The ENC will begin reviewing applications in mid-September. Compensation is $13/hour. Position open until filled.
