Job Description:

AWARD:  $3000 from the Friends of Huntley Meadows Park

PERIOD:    12 weeks, May 28 - August 16, 2019

LOCATION:          Huntley Meadows Park

                   3701 Lockheed Boulevard

                   Alexandria, VA 22306

APPLICANTS:         College students or graduates (must be at least 18), preferably with major in environmental education, natural sciences, or recreation, and proven ability to work well with children. No housing available.

HOURS: 40 hours/week. Schedule may include some weekends and evenings.

DUTIES

Program Services

  • -Participate in and lead nature programs and children’s day camps.
  • -Assist interpretive staff in the development of programs on the park’s natural history.
  • -Develop and implement new nature programs for a variety of age groups.

Projects

  • -Write an article for the Friends of Huntley Meadows newsletter describing the summer internship.
  • -Work with resource manager on outdoor projects.
  • -Assist with development of interpretive materials.

Support Services

  • -Greet visitors at the information desk, exhibit area, and on the trail.
  • -Volunteer management.

Training

  • -On-the-job and participate in professional training as available.
