Job Description:

The ultimate purpose of the Nature Center Program Manager is to reduce barriers to allow people to participate in programming at Riveredge Nature Center by providing a strong focus on inclusion, accessibility, and a commitment to equity. The position takes on a leadership role among the education management team and is responsible for the strategy, development, coordination, and evaluation of environmental education programs and events for a wide variety of audiences.

Responsibilities Management & Program Development Responsibilities (55%)

● Oversee all aspects of family, adult, and community-nature center programming at Riveredge, focusing on innovative approaches to engage people with the natural world through hands-on experiences at Riveredge. Such programs include, but may not be limited to:

o Family-focused events such as Trails & Treats, Handmade for the Holidays, Maple Sugarin’ Festival, and Frog Fest; potential for development of new special events focused on attracting large numbers of participants.

o Youth & family group programming such as Scout/youth group programs and birthday parties.

o Quarterly outreach engagements with the West Bend School District Nature-based 4K program.

o School-year weekly nature club programming in partnership with the Riveredge Outdoor Learning Elementary School and monthly Field Friday enrichment days.

o Coordination of Wine Walks and Beer Dinners to assist with serving adult audiences and new members.

o Facilitate educational engagements with organizations who are members of Riveredge.

● Extend the Riveredge Mission to communities through strategic outreach efforts such as:

o Coordination of seasonal family nature clubs.

o Partner with the development and marketing team to coordinate outreach events and festivals.

● Work with the Education Director to develop and implement appropriate evaluation methods to document the impact of programming efforts.

● Work with the marketing & development team to implement creative marketing and increased membership through unique program and event offerings.

● Work with the Environmental Education Manager and Education Management Team to coordinate staffing/volunteer educator needs to deliver all programming.

Develop and maintain curriculum materials for all events and programs. Program Delivery/Teaching (35%)

● Teach environmental education programs for school, summer, evening and weekend public groups when needed recognizing that the goal is always to free up managers’ time to manage, but as a nonprofit organization, managers are occasionally needed to teach/lead classes.

Serve as liaison between community partners hosting classes/workshops at Riveredge Nature Center. Organizational Responsibilities (10%)

● Support administrative operations of the nature center including proper maintenance of office equipment, building records and organizational systems, answering and responding to telephone and written communications on a regular basis.

● Participate in programs, events, and staff meetings to fully understand the programs and initiatives at Riveredge.

● Assist in staffing the Visitor Center approximately one weekend day per quarter (in addition to assisting with other weekend events).

● Assist with special events outside of the education team programs such as: Farm to Table Dinner, Frothy Forage, Yule Log Dinners, and Maple Syrup Suppers as you are able.

● Work regular, weekly nights and frequent weekends (dependent on programming).
