Seeking creative individual with excellent people skills to plan, develop, and implement nature education and interpretation for the City of Fredericksburg, VA, for a variety of audiences including scouts, adults, families, and over 1,500 home and public school students annually. Coordinates local Earth Day Festival, Kids’ Fishing Derby, Spooky Stories by the Shore, and Campout in the Park. Oversees Motts Run Nature Center exhibits, displays, and volunteers. Secures staffing, volunteers, plans activities, for a series of summer nature day camps (works at several weeks). Some weekends and evenings required. Oversees scout service projects, trail work, and more than 2,400 volunteer hours each year. Supervises and evaluates part-time assistant and twenty seasonal employees; prepares budgets for each event and tracks and evaluates expenditures.
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in forestry, biology, natural resources or a related field with a minimum 6 years of experience implementing interpretive nature programs or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires CPR, first aid, public speaking, excellent organizational and computer skills. Preference given to National Association of Interpretation certification. Must have a valid Virginia driver's license. Criminal background check required.
