Please Touch Museum seeks part time (up to 24 hours weekly) Educators, to execute multi-faceted educational programs in the Museum and offsite with activities for young children, their families, and groups. Including nontraditional museum audiences and/or underserved populations. The Educators implement programs in the visual and performing arts, science, and early childhood in a variety of exhibits; will lead daily programming, facilitate exhibit experiences, assist with writing lesson plans, engage in customer relations, act as peer mentors, and assist in the supervision and maintenance of exhibition spaces.
Other responsibilities include but not limited to: Implement comprehensive educational, multi-sensory, creative experiences; represent the museum in exhibits and offsite; act as role model for adult visitors to encourage open-ended, child-directed play; ensure museum programming aligns with best practices in museum and early childhood education, and is inclusive and accessible; assist with the development of creative and innovative programming; work with staff in departments across the museum to convey current educational initiatives; assist in administrative duties, including tracking program statistics; attend all training sessions and staff meetings.
Minimum Requirements: B.A. or B.S. in in Education, Museum Education, Arts/or related field; minimum of one year experience teaching children aged 0-8 in a formal and/or informal setting; Museum experience preferred; proven ability in leading programs, reading aloud, training and meeting participation; experience in program and curriculum design; demonstrates competency in either early childhood education, science, literacy, and visual arts; experience in working in the community; interpretive, museum early childhood development knowledge and performance experience; experience developing and leading programs for children in a museum setting required; extensive knowledge of best practices in museum teaching and learning theory for young children is required; assessing program effectiveness; excellent written and verbal skills; experience in informal learning settings, particularly with multigenerational audiences; working knowledge of programming for visitors with disabilities strongly preferred and Bilingual skills a plus.
