Qualifications we’re looking for:  

  • Previous work with 8 Shields mentoring model
  • Prior work in management
  • Wilderness skills and/or naturalist training
  • Experience working with youth and adults
  • Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive

What we offer:

  • Compensation: This is a part-time position with an opportunity to grow over time as VWP continues to expand programs and services. Starting salary is $18,810, and requires a commitment on average of 16-20 hours per week.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Staffing – mentor, train, and guide instructors in all their great work
  • Curriculum – provide creative direction based on 8 Shields Mentoring model
  • Safety – train and oversee instructors in ensuring emotional and physical safety, always
  • Conflict Resolution – uphold VWP Cultural Values and help resolve conflicts and grievances
  • Program Supervision – support staff and attend programs
  • Apprentice Program – conduct all aspects of our Young Mentors apprentice program
  • Meetings – hold regular meetings with your staff, our Executive Director, and program committee
  • Communication – provide clear, timely, peaceful verbal and written communications
  • New Program Development – create curriculum and conduct programs for new constituents
