The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) seeks a School Programs Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of school programs, including the supervision and management of ACES Educators. The School Programs Manager also improves, grows and develops existing and new education programs, under the guidance of the Education Director.
ACES is a nonprofit environmental science education organization. Since 1968, ACES has inspired a lifelong commitment to the Earth by providing innovative and immersive programming for all ages. We have three locations in the Roaring Fork Valley: Hallam Lake, Rock Bottom Ranch and Catto Center at Toklat. Our programs reach more than 140,000 individuals every year, and focus on ecological literacy, regenerative agriculture, forest and ecosystem health, land restoration and environmental leadership.
ACES teaches in schools from Aspen to Rifle, and provides youth camps, field trips, adult classes and guided hikes. ACES works diligently to directly affect environmental and climate change education, awareness and action. We also engage our community by hosting public lectures and events. ACES collaborates with land trusts, public agencies and other nonprofits to achieve our mission.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Supervise and manage ACES Educators.
- Observe and provide feedback to ACES Educators on instructional strategies.
- Participate in the recruitment and hiring of ACES Educators.
- Work with ACES Education Director to plan and facilitate weekly Education team meetings and professional development for Educators during the school year.
- Collaborate with ACES Education staff to plan, organize and implement fall and summer trainings for Educators.
- Maintain awareness of, and implement, risk management best practices.
2. Develop and teach ACES Education classroom curriculum and programs.
- Work with ACES Educators to develop, revise and refine place-based and culturally relevant units and lesson plans for grades K-5 that are
- Based on best practices in environmental education and instruction
- Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards/2020 Colorado Academic Science Standards
- Aligned with the 5E Instructional Method
- Teach ACES’ classroom, field and community programs, as needed.
3. Coordinate and manage school programs.
- Oversee the ACES Education calendar, including the scheduling of school and field programs, and the Education staff schedule.
- Work closely with the ACES Field Programs Coordinator and ACES Educators to plan for school field programs throughout the year.
- Invoice schools and partners for ACES Education programs.
- Work with education staff to manage the organization, development and transportation of educational materials between schools.
- Coordinate Family Science Night programs throughout the Aspen, Roaring Fork, Re-2 and Garfield 16 school districts.
4. Coordinate ACES’ youth community programs (50% time allocation during the summer).
- Manage summer programs at Rock Bottom Ranch, including daily program administration tasks (e.g. signing-in of participants and collecting waivers).
- Support the ACES Education Director and Community Programs Senior Manager in coordinating and scheduling winter and spring break programs, and scheduling education staff, as necessary.
- Aid ACES Community Programs Senior Manager in maintaining the community programs calendar, including scheduling staff for classes and events.
- Work with Community Programs Senior Manager and Field Programs Coordinator to refine existing community programs and create new summer programs and classes.
- Assist ACES Community Programs Senior Manager with the registration process, as needed.
- Perform onsite duties at Rock Bottom Ranch and Hallam Lake, as needed.
- Maintain an understanding of best practices in environmental and outdoor education, and knowledge of local ecology.
- Act as liaison, along with ACES Sustainable Agriculture Education Specialist, between ACES Education and agricultural operations at Rock Bottom Ranch.
- Other duties as assigned to further the mission of ACES.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience teaching elementary students in a classroom and/or field setting.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, parents and youth.
- Experience with curriculum writing and the Next Generation Science Standards.
- Knowledge of western Colorado ecology.
- Ability to inspire and encourage others.
- Strong administrative and organization skills; demonstrated strong attention to detail.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Fluency in Spanish is desired, but not required.
- Teaching certification is preferred.
This position reports to the ACES Education Director.
This is a full-time, year-round position at Rock Bottom Ranch in Basalt, Colorado. Travel throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and Garfield County is required.

Salary is commensurate with experience and ranges from $32,000 to $37,000, including housing. If ACES housing is not provided, additional compensation will be offered. ACES’ benefit package includes an IRA, and medical and dental plans. Paid time off is accrued throughout the work year.
