Duties and Responsibilities:
In this role you will be responsible for the following:
Work with a co-instructor to design and teach a curriculum emphasizing environmental justice, environmental science and scientific research; appropriate for middle school/early high school level.
Lead daily outdoor field investigations and youth development activities.
Plan and conduct weekly field trips to supplement the science curriculum.
Guide student group research investigations, which they will present to the public at the end of the session.
Administer and analyze student pre- and post assessments, integrate digital badging, and participate in program quality assessments.
Assist with other program activities as necessary.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
A minimum of three years of combined experience teaching science in either formal and/or informal education settings to high school or middle school-aged students.
Ability to conduct outdoor field and conservation science activities.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, education or related field.
Experience working with diverse populations, Chicago Public School students a plus.
Integrating STEM applications is a plus.
Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
Indoor and outdoor classroom setting. Frequent standing, walking, bending, listening, and speaking. Some use of office equipment. Some requirements for lifting, pushing, or pulling items less than 30 pounds.
