Job Description:

Hours:  Normal hours are between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm totaling no more than 40 hours per week. Start date, scheduled evenings, and scheduled weekend programs will be discussed upon hiring.

Duration:  12 weeks starting on approximately May 15 and ending on August 15

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task, adapt to change, develop plans and timelines and complete goals
  • Ability to work outside in various conditions and sit/stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift between 30 and 50 pounds (examples include: bag of bird seed, bird of prey travel box, canoe or kayak)
  • Must pass a background check and have a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Great Lakes region
  • Experience in kayaking
  • Experience in archery
  • Knowledge of interpretive techniques for various audiences especially children

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup, facilitation and clean-up of general programs
  • Assist with the facilitation of camps, kayaking and public presentations
  • Assist with captive animal husbandry and feeding
  • Support the overall goals of the organization
  • All other duties as assigned by Chief Naturalist, Program Director or Executive Director

Education/Experience:

  • Working toward or received a degree in environmental education, natural sciences, biology or a related field
  • Experience working with live animals including reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds
