Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves on the senior leadership team of the Nature Reserve, assisting the SNR Director and the Garden’s VP of Education in achieving strategic priorities, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, and building public and private support to grow and sustain the Nature Reserve’s operations and impacts.
Works closely with the SNR Director and the Garden’s Institutional Advancement division to identify funding sources and secure programmatic and long-term funding to support sustained operations.
Oversees and helps professionally develop education staff and volunteers, supporting the development of public programs and events for youth, families, and adults; and student/teacher classes, overnights, and workshops.
Directs the development, expansion, and implementation of interpretive experiences throughout SNR, from self-guided and guided tours to engagement at all physical venues, trails, and outdoor destinations
Manages the planning design, development, and implementation of interpretive strategies including exhibits, signage, print and online publications for the Nature Reserve.
Oversight of maintaining interpretive exhibits and signage; when in-house skills are not sufficient, hires and oversees outside designers, writers, fabricators, evaluators or other needed contractors.
Leads the communications and marketing efforts of the Nature Reserve, coordinating its website updates, social media activities, digital media productions, and traditional media relations. Oversees the development of print collateral and digital media for marketing and promotional purposes in support of SNR overall and for educational events and programs.
Routinely collaborates with the Nature Reserve’s Visitor Services, Horticulture, Ecological Restoration, Events, and General Operations teams to ensure inter-departmental collaborations and operations.
Responsible for assessment and evaluation of the Nature Reserve’s engagement of all audiences, including daily visitors, program participants, and volunteers.
In support of staff and volunteer teams, conducts school programs, teacher professional development experiences, and adult and family programs.
Develops and manages the SNR Education budget, including earned income revenue, grant and contract support, and operational expenses.
Ensures that all applicable safety standards are followed; informs employees, students, and volunteers of safety guidelines and methods to reduce hazards.Reports all accidents, injuries and near-miss accidents immediately.
Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork and cooperation, within our division and throughout the Garden, with co-workers, supervisors/managers, volunteers, visitors and employees.
