EcoVenture Youth Camp Counselors

The EcoVenture Counselors are responsible for ensuring the smooth daily operation of the camp and for the direct supervision and safety of the campers. He or she reports directly to the Camp Director. Duties of the Counselor include, but are not limited to, the following:

General

Assist in preparing general season schedule with weekly programming
Assist in preparing a detailed daily schedule
Inspect, organize and maintain all field equipment
Work with Camp Director to develop and implement necessary policies
Work with Stewardship Director on base camp maintenance and repairs

Program Implementation

Communication with parents
Review camper information packages in detail prior to program week
Participate in daily staff meetings
Oversee weekly cleaning of base camp and associated equipment
Coordinate daily logistics
At season end, inspect, inventory and store all equipment

Compensation

The compensation for this temporary position is $11.25 - 11.50 per hour, 32 hours per week for a period of ~5 weeks. These positions may require overnight camping in remote areas and individuals must be in good physical condition.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the seven weeks, you will gain leadership, problem-solving, interpersonal and team building skills while developing your outdoor skills in a backcountry setting.

Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust is committed to providing excellent programming and will be providing a lifeguard course and wilderness first aid course for counselors.

Specific skills include: 

Wilderness First Aid/CPR certification

Lifeguarding certification
Group Management
Canoe/Kayak Strokes
Water Safety Signals

You can expect to become part of the Rangeley community. You will spend every day outside working closely with another counselor on active adventures encouraging children to step out of their comfort zone, to make new friends, and try new experiences.

How to Apply:

These positions require people with a strong desire to work in an outdoor setting with children. Applicants should be enrolled in an outdoor recreation-related field and should have experience working with children. Applicants must commit to the entire training and program weeks, June 25 - August 10.
