This position supports the NPNR staff in providing outdoor camp programs to urban/at-risk youth through the Urban Outdoor Connection program. This position assists with the development and presentation of environmental education/ outdoor recreation camps to groups of 9 campers, ages 7-12. This includes planning and facilitating field trips and daily camp activities such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, stream searches, hikes, adventure trips, and more.
Strong leadership in camp settings is a requirement. Applicants for positions must have ability and desire to work with children in an outdoor setting and be able to outdoors in the summer months for extended periods of time. In addition, the following skills are desired:
Strong camp leadership experience
Positive and hardworking attitude
A desire to work long hours outside during summer weather
Good group management skills
A desire to see the outdoors make a difference in the lives of youth
Knowledge of local flora and fauna
Ability or desire to work with amphibians, fish, reptiles, and invertebrates
This position runs June-August and hours are generally 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Exact start dates and specific hours will be discussed during the interview process.
