Job Description:

Spokane County Environmental Services is a leader in water resource education in Spokane County and seeks to hire a candidate to be an integral team member in delivering education programs at our Water Resource Center, in the classroom and out in the community. This position includes the development and delivery of environmental education and outreach materials to a broad range of age groups, and includes the design and preparation of lessons and materials with a focus on alignment with Next Generation Science Standards.  Applicants should be outgoing, organized, enjoy teaching and be able to communicate clearly. A passion for understanding and communicating environmental issues is a plus. Prior teaching experience preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in science, education, planning or engineering that includes training in the natural sciences and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a position involving public contact work.  A Master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the experience.

LICENSE: Possession of a valid driver's license.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Conduct indoor and outdoor educational activities for K-12, college classes and community groups
  • Participate in community events on behalf of Spokane County Water Resources such as Earth Day, Spokane County Fair, school science nights, etc.
  • Develop educational activities/lesson plans that meet relevant Next Generation Science Standards
  • Organize and/or coordinate multi-school/multi-day education events
  • Create marketing materials including brochures, flyers, and posters
  • Respond to educational requests
  • Collaborate in multi-agency environmental education initiatives
  • Coordinate with teachers, group leaders regarding event scheduling and activities
  • Conduct water reclamation facility tours.
  • Direct volunteers and PT help
  • Occasional weekend and evening work required.

SALARY:  $44,023.92 - $59,403.36 annually
