Responsibilities: Wilderness/Outdoor Leaders will be responsible for working with the Wilderness Program Manager to plan and lead wilderness trips, Added Adventures, and Hante Adventure treks. We offer adventures for children of all ages, grouped according to maturity and skill level. Participants learn a variety of intensive camping skills including food preparation, fire building, backpacking skills, and Leave No Trace ethics. Instructors are responsible for the details of their trips, including but not limited to: planning menus, itineraries, and lesson plans; budgeting for expenditures; reviewing risk and creating emergency plans; documenting the trip through logs, photos, and a group project; and prep/clean-up of gear. In addition, our wilderness staff are responsible for living with the participants during their time in camp and out in the field. While in camp and in the field, staff help participants with daily tasks which include preparing meals, cleaning, skills execution, group dynamics, etc. Wilderness staff are responsible for participants’ safety and well-being, for learning and following Eagle’s Nest Foundation protocols, and for working with our medical staff to prepare medical packs for treks. Wilderness staff and Hante Adventures Instructors attend training clinics and all-staff orientation.
Qualifications: All staff must be at least 18 years old with one full year out of high school. All Wilderness/Outdoor staff must have a minimum of CPR and Wilderness First Aid certification. Hante Adventure Leaders must be certified as a Wilderness First Responder. We also value certifications and training in areas including Leave No Trace, lifeguarding, natural and environmental science, paddling, and climbing. Wilderness staff should have considerable training and experience with camping and backpacking skills. Those interested in extended expeditions (Added Adventures, Hante Adventures) must have previous experience leading wilderness backpacking trips.

Who We Are: Eagle’s Nest Camp is a coed camp over 90 years old, located in the lush mountains of Western North Carolina. Eagle’s Nest provides a strong, nurturing community where campers ages 6-17 are treated with respect, honor and compassion. Campers have the opportunity to participate in 1-3 week long sessions which emphasize the wilderness, arts, and community. Our mission is experiential education for young people, promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character.
