The Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford, New Jersey is a non-profit facility specializing in the environmental education of 20,000 school children each year and the rehabilitation of over 4,000 animals each year.  Our hospital accepts nearly all of the native wildlife species in NJ.  The Refuge is located at the edge of the Pine Barrens a unique habitat with special protection in southern New Jersey.  For more information visit our website at: www.cedarrun.org

Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, individual to work in our rehabilitation hospital.  Interns will deal directly with the public bringing in animals and will also assist with direct animal care and our environmental enrichment program. Assignments will include; feeding, cleaning and otherwise providing care for injured and orphaned wildlife (this includes dishes and laundry); answering the telephone and giving information; returning animal concern phone calls; greeting people with incoming animals; assisting with special events, and all other aspects of the Refuge. Positions are voluntary or credit-based.

Qualifications:

Academic background (college coursework and/or degree preferable) in wildlife studies, wildlife rehabilitation or related field; knowledge of native species essential; ability to relate to the public in a positive and empathetic manner is key to this position.  The successful intern will be well-spoken, friendly, calm and pleasant, must be a self-starter who is flexible, committed to teamwork and able to conduct independent research.  Must have good telephone skills, an ability to work in a hectic, sometimes emotional situation and must have a willingness to learn and participate in various aspects of refuge work. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Must pass a background check prior to start date. Rabies vaccination preferred. This is not a routine vaccination, so please check with your doctor.  While we do offer internships to candidates without the vaccine, priority is given to those with the vaccine because they can work with a greater variety of our animals.

Medford, NJ (approx. 17 miles from Philadelphia)

Duration:

summer internships last approx. 3 months

Start Date:

summer internships start beginning of June (dates flexible) and run through the third week in August.

Hours:

full time 40-hour week, some weekends and nights

Compensation:

Housing for this position is no longer available. Positions are voluntary or credit-based commuters only. Must provide own transportation.
