YMCA Earth Service Corps Program Instructor

We are seeking to fill four AmeriCorps community service positions to start in September 2016 for a 10.5-month term of service.

Mission: The YMCA Earth Service Corps (YESC) empowers young people to be effective, global citizens by providing opportunities for environmental education and action, leadership development and cultural competency.

Job Description: This Program Instructor position will directly serve six high school and middle school YESC clubs in the King County including the following cities: Seattle, Shoreline, Tukwila, Bellevue, Kirkland, Sammamish, Issaquah, and Renton.

Each Program Instructor will be responsible for the recruitment and support of middle and high school students during the school year as they plan and carry out environmental service learning projects through extracurricular school-based environmental clubs. Each member will serve with teen leaders and volunteers to enhance current program curriculum, design new resources for volunteers, and build new relationships within the community to enhance regional and club events.

Each AmeriCorps member will facilitate Leadership Retreats for students in their region and plan 1-2 regional service events. In addition, they will collaborate with fellow team members to plan regional conferences including a winter Environmental Leaders Summit and spring Environmental Symposium.

Members will serve in their regional areas Monday through Thursday, and meet with other team members on Fridays at the YMCA at Cascade People’s Center in Seattle.

This position will require occasional outdoor, physical work in all weather conditions. Some work assignments require evening and weekend hours. This position may require a vehicle.

We look for enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, training is provided to all AmeriCorps members.
