Corps members will be enrolled in the YouthBuild Program until academic and placement goals are met, approximately 6-9 months.
Corps members will alternate between classroom and service site days starting February 5, 2018-October 2018.
Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Schedule may vary depending on projects.
12-Months of supportive placement and follow-up services upon program completion.
Corps members SERVE:
On Construction Sites: Serve on a crew with other young adults building low- income housing in the Denver Metro area. Corps members will serve alongside construction staff and professional trades-people to become familiar with construction tools, vocabulary and methods.
Community: Corps members will participate in service projects with local nonprofits that may be outside of the MHYC daily schedule.
Corps members RECEIVE:
Education: Fully participate in GED or High School Equivalency program, as well as construction lab classes, healthy lifestyles workshops, leadership development, and service-learning activities.
Training/Certifications: First Aid/CPR, OSHA, Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT), hands-on technical training related to all construction projects, green building and other advanced training as applicable.
Career Readiness: Career exploration, resume development, and networking with employers, apprenticeship, and union opportunities.
Post- Secondary/College Resources: Develop skills and explore options for college including FAFSA completion, financial aid, and enrollment support, scheduled campus visits, preparation workshops, etc.
Health Insurance: May be eligible for health insurance the 1st of the month after serving at MHYC for sixty days serving 30+ hours a week. Member share of health insurance premium is $80 per month.
Corps members LEAD:
Corps members serve as role models and promote volunteerism and community service across the agency.
Leadership Opportunities include serving on the Leadership Council, taking lead roles in the classroom and on the service site, and attending the Council of Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
Between 17-24 years old.
Must be able to serve in the United States legally and eligible for enrollment in AmeriCorps as a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident. Documentation will be required on the first day.
Must be committed to earning a high school equivalency.
Must desire to make a positive change in your life.
Must be physically capable of construction tasks, including, but not limited to: able to lift 50 lbs., serve 4- 8 hours per day outdoors in all weather conditions (e.g. sun, heat, wind, rain, cold, snow, etc.), squat, reach, crawl, stand for long periods of time, available for a minimum of 450 hours of service.
Able to commit to the entire term of service.
The desire to become involved in your community and increase your leadership skills.
Able to be on time and maintain high levels of attendance.
Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
Actively participate as part of a team, show respect to others and have a positive attitude.
Must be committed to developing professional skills for long-term success.
This position has recurring access to vulnerable populations and therefore must complete a pre-service background check which includes fingerprinting.
Pre-service drug screen required. Drug testing may be required during the term.
Must not engage in any prohibited activities listed in the AmeriCorps member service agreement and must adhere to rules and regulations specified in the MHYC handbook and fully comply with organizational policies and procedures.
Must be able to provide proof of income qualification and other barrier documentation per grant requirements.
This position reports to YouthBuild Construction Crew Leader.

Corps members EARN:
Biweekly stipend: February 5, 2018– March 2018 earn $680, before taxes, every two weeks for an average of 34 hours per week. March 2018-October 2018 earn $825, before taxes, every two weeks for an average of 34 hours a week. Raises and bonuses may be granted based on performance.
AmeriCorps Education Award: Earn a $1583.36 education award upon successful completion of the term (450 hours of service). This award can be used to pay tuition for college, trade schools or certificate programs.
