Job Description:

Zoo Idaho is a unique, endemic zoo located in the mountains of Southeastern Idaho. We are focused on educating the community about native Idaho wildlife. The zoo partners with Idaho Fish and Game to place non-releasable wildlife. Our wildlife serve as animal ambassadors for their species. Zoo Idaho’s mission is to help preserve intermountain west wildlife through conservation and education.

Our Zoo Educators act as the direct link between our wildlife and the public. They teach a variety of experiential programming focused on creating a connection between our community and our wildlife. At Zoo Idaho, we believe education is the most important role in developing environmental stewards. As the Zoo Educator, we rely on you to create excitement about our wildlife and spark that initial bound with wildlife conservation.

The Zoo Educator is responsible for helping the Education Curator implement the zoo’s community education and outreach programs. The job includes creating, organizing, and implementing programming. We offer a variety of educational programming including summer camps, day classes, community events, and outreach programs. We are looking for someone who can engage a variety of audiences. As the zoo educator, you are the face of Zoo Idaho, and we are looking for an individual that can captivate our guests and create a memorable experience.

The zoo educator will be responsible for helping with the care of our education animals and our raptor program. Prior experience is not required but a general comfort around animals and the willingness to learn proper animal care procedures is a must.

The position is supervised by the Education Curator.

The work environment includes an office and zoo environment, outdoor weather conditions including extreme temperatures, and exposure to wild and/or exotic animals. The noise level is generally moderate but can occasionally be high.  The job often includes work outside the normal work schedule for special events and weekend work.  The job also includes driving to schools and/or other events for outreach, marketing and promotional activities.
