The Refuge Operations Intern will work with the refuge manager and refuge volunteers to achieve refuge operations, conservation and restoration needs and gain a wide variety of experience with responsibilities related to three basic functions: habitat management, biology, and visitor services/facilities. Most responsibilities will be at the South Coast Office, Bandon Marsh NWR and Oregon Islands NWR.

Assist with content creation for interpretive signs and social media. This internship rungs from May 1- Sept 30, 2022. Some undergrad coursework in biology, environmental science, recreation & park management, or related fields. A Bachelors Degree preferred

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM CST. Length: 2 hours each date.
This free distance learning series features the innovative Compass to Nature, a proven effective method to teaching outdoors. We'll explore the four cardinal directions for the C2N: place, phenology, journals, and naturalists, plus the magnetic force of the sense of wonder, through indoor presentations and outdoor field exercises to build or enhance your skills. Open to all who work with children.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service trains interns, in May, on our ATV's to patrol the beach for turtle crawls. We have a later training for Turtle watch, which is monitoring turtle nest and hatchlings. Our Interns have the opportunity to spend a few days at a nearby fish hatchery, as well as assist on our refuges with water management, bird nesting closures and bird surveys. Interns may participate in Pelican and Tern banding. Interns are trained to lead Educational programs, assist in visitor centers and refuge maintenance.
