This position is responsible for completing field work and office-based work related to the day-to-day operations of the Landfill Stewardship Operations Unit within the Emergency Response and Spills Prevention Division (ERSPD), with potential assignment of related duties in other units to address agency operational needs. The Landfill Stewardship Operations Unit has the obligation to conduct long-term post-closure care of several landfills previously managed by other entities.
The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), is looking to hire a full-time Environmental Intern to work in DEEP's Environmental Justice Program. DEEP’s Environmental Justice Program is one of the oldest environmental justice programs in the nation. Since its’ creation in 1993, it has developed policy, strategies, and law in response to the needs identified by BIPOC communities and residents or urban areas.
This is a unique position that will inform the Environmental Justice Program at the Connecticut Department of Environmental and Energy Protection on those areas that are overburdened with pollution and enable prioritization of those geographic areas for enforcement, planning, grant funding, technical assistance and targeted outreach and engagement.
