2018 Nature Preschools Conference Call for Proposals
Join an international lineup of presenters and be a part of the World of Wonder: An International Nature-Based Early Learning Conference, taking place on August 1-4, in Chicago! The Natural Start Alliance invites you to submit a proposal for a 60-minute presentation or a 90-minute workshop. We are seeking individual or joint proposals on teaching, administration, and research in the nature-based early learning field. The deadline to submit a proposal is January 26, 2018. Nature Preschools and Kindergartens at Record Numbers in the U.S.
A new national survey of nature-based early childhood educators found that the number of nature preschools and forest kindergartens operating in the U.S. is at an all-time high. The study, conducted by four associations serving early childhood professionals, identified more than 250 nature preschools and kindergartens across the country – a 66% increase over the previous year’s tally of 150. The programs serve approximately 10,000 children every year, and eight out of ten programs reported that they started a waiting list in the previous twelve months.

Drones and Discovery: An interview with an #EnviroEdTechInnovator
Connecting with nature comes in many forms in today's environmental education programs. Flying a drone to explore sensitive areas in Florida's estuaries, using advanced probeware and mobile interactive app's to make visible the invisible water quality characteristics, or designing hydroponics systems to farm endemic cordgrass in schools-- these are just some examples of #enviroedtechinnovation happening at GTM Research Reserve in Ponte Vedra, FL under the leadership of Kenneth Rainer. As someone committed to leveraging technology as a tool to inspire people to appreciate and care for estuaries, I interviewed Kenneth to understand his views on the role of technology and EE and learn more about how he is putting that into practice in the reserve's K-12 programming.
