Promoting Professional Development and Best Practice in EE
Jill Korach
Outstanding Service to EE
Individual-GlobalFrom a Captain in the US Army, to a Backroads camping guide, to directing the efforts of Project Dragonfly’s Earth Expeditions program through Miami University, Jill Korachs’s impact is global. She nurtures partnerships in sixteen countries building grassroots conservation action while promoting local voice, scientific research, and inquiry-based learning.
It is the combination of content knowledge through education, leadership skills through the military, and experience through facilitating trips through Backroads that has set Jill up as a global change-maker for environmental education.
Jill works for Miami University’s Project Dragonfly Earth Expeditions program, where she has nurtured partnerships in sixteen countries across the globe for over 15 years. She takes ‘studying abroad’ to the next level by working directly with grassroots conservation groups within these countries to mutually benefit local people and students. Without Jill’s knowledge of biology and conservation practices, compassion for communities, and respect for culture, this global network wouldn’t be possible.
Back home in Cincinnati, since 2003, Jill has been the President of the Board for Imago for Earth, an environmental education and conservation organization. Through this volunteer effort, she sets an example of how we can continue to make a global change, while not losing sight of our own communities.
