Survey: K–12 Social-Emotional Learning and Climate Change Curriculum
Did you know that nearly 60% of K–12 youth feel ‘very worried’ or ‘extremely worried’ about climate change (Hickman et al., 2021)?
My research collaborators and I are conducting a study in which we are exploring educator attitudes and practices for addressing K–12 student social-emotional learning within climate change curriculum. We are additionally interested in learning about ways in which educators have (or might in the future) partnered with school counselors to address student mental health concerns related to climate change.
We are conducting our study in two phases, the second of which is optional. First, we invite you to complete a survey in which we ask you to share about your attitudes about climate change and experiences in addressing student social-emotional learning within climate change education. You may elect to share your email address at the end of the survey to be entered into a drawing for one of twenty-five ($15) Amazon gift cards. The survey will take you about 15 minutes to complete.
At the end of the survey, you will be invited to share your email address if you are interested in being interviewed about these same topics in a follow-up interview. Your email address will only be seen by the primary researchers. Once participants have been selected and contacted for the drawing and/or for participation in the individual interviews, any identifying information will be destroyed from the data.
You are eligible to participate in the study if you meet the following criteria:
- You are at least 18 years old and
- You identify as a K–12 school counselor, environmental educator, or science educator
