Job Description:

Nature's Classroom is seeking an Assistant Program Director, who is passionate about outdoor education!

Nature’s Classroom New England is the largest overnight, hands-on, nature/science/SEL based outdoor education program in the northeast. We provide programming for thousands of elementary and middle school students across New England each year! Each spring and fall we host students at our 6 beautiful sites, or travel to schools for a day of outdoor activities.

Job Responsibilities: 
The Assistant Program Director will plan, direct, and implement the safe operation of Nature’s Classroom at all of the Host Site Sites.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that schools have a safe and positive experience for all students and adults.
  • Oversee staff, curriculum, and overall program delivery improvements at all Host Sites, to increase school retention, program growth, and positive program impact.
  • Travel to our 6 locations throughout the season to provide program support during programming. 
  • Assist the Program Director in administrative duties such as: managing and ordering supplies, organizing staff events, securing out-of-camp housing for our Nature on Wheels programs, organizing program reports and documents, etc.  
  • Collaborate with and assist the Healthcare Administrator if needed. 
  • Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
  • Supervise and manage Program Coordinators and instructors with the Program Director.
  • Oversee, train, and help manage the Program Coordinators at each center. Provide winter training for the spring season, and end-of-summer PC training for the fall season.
  • Schedule Host Site visits to meet with Host Site leadership to improve relationships and collaboration with the Program Director. 
  • Supervise supply and equipment purchases during the winter months for the spring program, and during the summer months for the fall programs.
  • Keep detailed notes and daily usage of Hubspot for email correspondence between educators and administrators.  
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned by the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • At least one year of management experience.
  • At least five years experience working with youth.
  • At least one year experience working in an outdoor setting (summer camp or outdoor education preferred).
  • Ability to work with gmail, google drive, and CRMs, and be able to produce accurate and professional written and verbal communications (i.e. emails and phone calls).
  • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain. 
  • A passion for outdoor education! 

Salary: $55,000 yearly
