Job Description:

AmeriCorps Conservation Interns (ages 18-25) serve alongside natural resource professionals with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge or U.S. Forest Service at the Chippewa National Forest. Each internship is focused to help develop the Conservation Interns’ professional skill sets while providing expertise and valuable contributions to the host site.  Conservation Interns receive training, supervision and guidance from experienced agency and Conservation Corps staff, learning hands-on skills in managing natural resources and conducting public outreach.  

Conservation Interns will be assigned to one of four areas:
-- Visitor and outreach services (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge or Chippewa National Forest)
-- Trails and grounds maintenance (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge)
-- Biological inventory, monitoring and restoration (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge)
-- Road monitoring, inventory and survey (Chippewa National Forest)

-- AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25)
-- Term: May 16 – August 11, 2017
-- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. typical. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
-- Stipend: $1355/mo
-- Education award: $1527.78 upon successful completion of term

Housing is not provided for the Bloomington (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge) location. Intern must secure their own housing near Bloomington, MN. Housing is provided for the Walker (Chippewa National Forest) location.

-- Bloomington, MN with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge)
-- Walker, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)

-- Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and all weather conditions.
-- Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and interact with members of the public.
-- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
-- Academic and/or field experience in natural resources preferred.
-- Strong planning, organization, communication and creative thinking skills.
-- Knowledge of GIS software and GPS use preferred

-- 18-25 years old.
-- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
-- Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
